Newsletter 2010-02
Editorial
Salut!
Welcome to the February edition of the IDS newsletter filled with news, and general thespian type information and a small amount of random randomness!
The most amazing thing for me is all that's happening at IDS this year, more than enough to keep all of us out of trouble. Hopefully there's something here for you as well...
Thespis
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thespis
Thespis of Icaria (present-day Dionysos, Greece) (6th century BC), according to certain Ancient Greek sources and especially Aristotle, was the first person ever to appear on stage as an actor playing a character in a play (instead of speaking as him or herself). In other sources, he is said to have introduced the first principal actor in addition to the chorus.
South Pacific
As many of you know, the first show of 2010 is going to be South Pacific. Auditions were held at the end of January and MILLIONS of people turned up. Rehearsals are going full steam ahead and I can't wait to see the show.
Gayle (the director / boss person) had this to say about progress so far.
We have a whole group of brand new faces, and many of our fantastic old hands are involved as well. We're having loads of fun in rehearsals, and the show will be brilliant!
Irene Dramatic Society presents the musical, South Pacific, at Irene Homes Hall on 16th, 17th, 30th April, and 01st May at 19:30. For more information contact the director Gayle Goddard on 083 258 4371, or the Musical Director, Alet de Wet on 083 273 5573.
Membership fees
It costs a lot of money to keep IDS running and part of that is paid for in membership fees. The amount is only R50 per annum per person, which is not a lot at all. We are asking all of you to please make an effort to pay your membership fees. This can be done at any IDS production, audition or social gathering. An annum runs from 1st October to 31st September of the next year
If you would like to pay directly into our account

Randomness
Hint on the rest of 2010
Visit our website from time to time for scheduled events later in the year, but here's a hint: Coarse Acting. Again.
End
As a last thought, if have any photos from shows that are not on the website, please send to me and I can slap them up. Thanks!
That's it for this month. See ya soon!!!!
